Waco's Rhodes Earns All-Star Selection

Former Waco LaVega star Arthur Rhodes was selected to the National League All-Star team. Rhodes, a left-handed 40-year old relief pitcher for the Reds told mlb.com, "I've put a lot of hard work into this game, busted my tail and just worked hard. It's an exciting year for me in the first half. To make the All-Star team I'm excited right now. I'll go out there, enjoy myself and have fun."

Rhodes is 3-2 with a 1.09 ERA in 37-appearances in 2010.

1660ESPN Audio-Streaming Update

The number one feedback and concern I received while taking over as program director for 1660ESPN was the lack of online content and especially on-line audio-streaming.  I told anyone who would listen this would be among my top priorities.  We will sign papers with a company on Tuesday, and it should take between 7-10 days for the on-line streaming to begin.

Stay tuned and thanks for your loyalty and feedback.

Former Bear Wesley to coach in NBA D-League

Full Court Press Blog:

During the 2008-09 season, David Wesley gained national attention when he joined the Baylor basketball staff as a student manager after a successful 14-year NBA career. A month after Baylor played in the NIT championship game in Madison Square Garden, Wesley earned his bachelor's degree from Baylor University - some 17 years after he left Waco to pursue a professional basketball career.

Now Wesley is back in professional basketball as he moves towards his goal of becoming an NBA coach...this time with the NBA D-League's Texas Legends. Wesley has accepted an assistant coaching position with the Frisco-based Legends, according to an article in Saturday's Longview News-Journal. The expansion Legends will begin play in the D-League this fall.

In Sept. 2008, Wesley returned to the Baylor campus after a successful 14-year NBA career. He scored 11,842 points with 4,159 assists in 949 career games. He is one of only two undrafted players in NBA history to score 11,000+ points (Moses Malone). In three seasons for the Bears, he scored 1,224 points, which ranks 15th all-time in school history.

Navarro College Center commits to Kansas

Navarro College center Nick Johnson, 6-3, 290, has given his verbal commitment to play at the University of Kansas and head coach Turner Gil.

Baylor's Udoh Drafted By Warriors

Baylor forward Ekpe Udoh was drafted by the Golden State Warriors with the sixth overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft.  Udoh, 6-10, 240, averaged 13.9-points and nearly 10-rebounds a game during his junior season.

Also Corsicana native Wes Johnson of Syracuse University was taken 4th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

David Smoak named new Program Director, Sports Director, Talk Show Host at 1660ESPN Radio.

I am proud to accept the job as program director, sports director, and talk show host at AM1660 KRZI (ESPN Radio-Waco).

I will host a sports talk show from 3:00pm-6:00pm (Monday through Friday), along with the legendary Butch Henry and our future star Paul Catalina.

At this time, the show is not available on the Internet, but that will change in due time and we have some exciting news about a potential television simulcast as well.

I want to thank Tom Barfield for laying the foundation and building the success this station has enjoyed for many years. I can only hope to expand on what's been done and continue the momentum.

You can reach me at either email address listed below.

Thank you.
